Step away from the stresses of work and surround yourself with stunning scenery; enjoy wondrous treatments that provide respite for the mind and relaxation for the body; dine out on deliscious Tom Yum; experience the unique spectacle that is a Thai lady boy cabaret show and lose yourself in the true sense of what it means to travel in Thailand.

Yet is this the whole picture? Perhaps not.

No Thai adventure is complete until you have enjoyed the unerring pleasure of a local massage. As with the cuisine, wellness treatments are embedded within local Thai culture – a fact exemplified by the number of spas you stumble across during your travels.

You will be dazzled by the selection but - follow our advice - and you need not be overwhelmed; we will show you the best of the delights on offer.

Spa Rarin Jinda

As one of the most progressive Spas in the country, Rarin Jinda boasts unrivalled facilities including a heated indoor hydrotherapy pool, vichy shower and hydrotherapy bath tub, among a host of other amenities. With an enchanting décor and hi-tech features, this award-winning spa is revered by locals and tourists alike.

Rarin Jinda has several locations across Chiang Mai and Bangkok, with Phuket being their most recent opening. Expect elegant charm and an unrivalled consistency to their service; refined design styles rather than a lavishly overblown decor. The wellness rooms are comforting and generously-sized and guests can choose communal treatments if visiting in groups - perhaps breaking with tradition but a more sociable affair.

As well as bravely modernizing the interior design, the Rarin Jindai team have also stepped up their spa service. Alongside saunas, hot stone massages and shirodhara, less traditional Tibetan therapies and stomach detoxification treatments are also now on offer.

Sukko Spa

Established in December 2015, in the face of some well-established competition, Sukko Spa has carved itself a niche with its delightful features.

This gorgeous spa spans across 12 acres – a space equivalent to that of 6 football pitches – with 80 generously-sized treatment rooms. The spa is easily accessible thanks to its free shuttle service and boasts a regal architectural design with ornate decorations.

Design aside, the founder of Sukko Spa deserves a mention in his own right. A practitioner of traditional Thai medicine, he knows a thing or two about herbal pharmacology and uses this influence within the treatments available at Sukko. Traditional massages, heat therapies and herbal remedies are all used to bring a balance back to clients’ spirits.

Sukko Spa offers 14 packages that vary in length from two to three hours and have each been prepared by Sukko’s certified herbalist. The intrigue is not in the variety, rather in the fact that each therapist is a Thai herbalist who will adjust the herbs they use depending on the client’s specific needs. Each herbalist has received over 800 hours of training and only once qualified can they offer their services to guests. Sukko Spa has its own range of products that make the best of the herbalist remedies on offer, with many of these available for guests to purchase and take home.
